In this post, I’ll show you how to use the Layered SEO technique to get traffic from Google and other search engines.
If you’re not yet sure what SEO is, please see my earlier post SEO 101 for some background info.
Now down to business – what is Layered SEO?
It is the process of writing content strategically – using a master document with feeder content linking to an acquisition point for that master document, and organically creating content and links to create a layering of your content online. This allows for the greatest level of organic and viral spread, especially as not only do people share your content, but the search engines begin to value your content more highly.
In my previous post, I stressed the importance of creating great content. Once you have created the great content, get it published online.
Tell people about it. If it truly is great content, those people will tell other people. And those other people will tell more people. If you want people to share your content, it must be sharable. It must be something people WANT to share.
Here’s an example of publishing great content and telling people about it:
- Start by writing your content, aiming for about 2000 words.
- Convert it to a pdf and make it a download when someone subscribes to your website.
- Put the entire document on your site for easy viewing.
- Break it into four 500 word blocks, and put one block in each of these places, with a link to one other instance of the content:
-
- Blog
- E-newsletter
- E-zine article
- Google+
For example, the block submitted to https://ezinearticles.com might link to your blog, and the block in your E-newsletter might link to Google+. This allows your content to become viral faster, and allows Google to more quickly determine if your content is relevant for their searches.
Now what will happen is that people will read the content at these sites – at ezinearticles, on your blog site, at Google+, and if they like it they will share it. The better this document is, the more it will get shared. And the more it gets shared, the more links you will get and the more traction it will get in the search engines.
I know this sounds really easy. It is.
Now, one of the real keys is that each time you use this strategy, distribute your content to a DIFFERENT set of places. That’s one mistake I see people make, they get a list of some ideas of places to submit to, and they think more is better. It’s not. Just get your content to a few places, get people to see it, and let the natural, organic process take over.
Here are some other platforms you could send some of your content (remembering this: only choose a few of these each time you publish something):
- Pinterest.com
- An industry site in your niche
- An article directory in your niche
- Blogs in your niche
- Your websites (assuming you have more than one)
- Your blogs (also assuming you have more than one)
Where else can you think of to publish your online content?
So to summarize, here is the formula:
Write a 2000 word master document. Put the entire document on your website. Then break it into four 500 word pieces, and submit each piece to one of four different places online, with a link to the master document.
Then rinse and repeat – write another 2000 word master document.
Imagine if each day you wrote one 2000 word master document. In one year you would have 400,000 words of content, 800 articles online, two hundred 2000 word master documents on your website, and you’d probably have all the traffic you can handle!
Note: to make stacking the layers easier write the entire document first, then publish the part FIRST that you want linked to LAST. The reason for this is that when you publish one piece of content, you get the link to that piece of content. Then the NEXT piece of content links back to the first piece of content. The third piece of content links to the second piece of content, then to your site where someone can get access to you and get ALL the content.
This is the Layered SEO formula for getting high search rankings. Think of it as creating one master content piece (for example, the 2000 word master document) then using that content piece to create articles and snippets that lead readers back to your master document, and each content piece or snippet links to another content piece or snippet. As people organically share your content, you will get exposed to more people who will read your content and possibly become involved in your site.
